Twas the night before the 4th, and all through the campus,
Not a computer was left on, no electricity wasted.
Electronics were turned off and unplugged with care,
In an effort to be energy aware.
Most of us are planning a weekend BBQ or pontoon trip already, but there’s one thing left to do before you hit the lake for the weekend:
Please join your fellow UMD staff and faculty by taking a few minutes to help the environment and save energy. Please take a few simple steps to help minimize our consumption of energy resources. Every watt and every dollar counts. Working together, we can scale back and conserve energy to reduce our campus carbon footprint. The Office of Sustainability asks you to:
* Turn off all lights and office equipment.
* Shut down your computer, monitor, speakers, and printer. (Note: Powering down a computer does NOT cause wear and tear or reduce the life of a machine. Modern computers are designed to handle 40,000 on-off cycles, many more than the life span of the average computer.)
* Unplug all unnecessary appliances, including electronic device chargers.
* Close and lock windows, and close window blinds/curtains if you have them.
* Working in a lab? Ensure fume hoods are closed Turn off research equipment, where possible.
